Famous last words

"I think for us to get American military personnel involved in a civil war inside Iraq would literally be a quagmire. Once we got to Baghdad, what would we do? Who would we put in power? What kind of government? Would it be a Sunni government, a Shiite government, a Kurdish government?

"Would it be secular, along the lines of the Baath party? Would it be fundamentalist Islamic?"

"I do not think the United States wants to have U.S. military forces accept casualties and accept responsibility of trying to govern Iraq. It makes no sense at all."

When were these noble words intoned? 1991
Who said it? Dick Cheney

What happened to Dick twixt then and now? The Project for a New American Century. And Halliburton/Brown and Root, defense contractors that provided over $10,000,000 for Cheney after he left the Bush, Sr. White House and became CEO of Halliburton.

That revolving door was so successful, he's doing it again, providing no-contest contracts for Halliburton for the second invasion of Iraq, during his second go at government malfeasance. This once likable Wyoming Senator, has become a sneering Daddy Warbucks, piling up filthy lucre at the cost of hundreds of thousands of dead and wounded, millions of disrupted lies, untold misery and mayhem.

So it's grab it while the grabbing's good, before the whole thing collapses in his lap. He hopes to be safely out of politics and back on the ranch in Wyoming by then, dandling his millions on his knee, his artificial ticker beating away madly where his heart used to be.

This wouldn't be so bad if there were some viable Democrat alternative on the horizon. There is not. It's business as usual in the White House, whether it's donkeys or elephants. The Money Party's in town and they're here to stay.
